Charlotte Hornets shooting guard P.J. Hairston, a first-round draft pick last month, was involved in an altercation with a high school boy in Durham, N.C., on Sunday, Hairston's agent told Yahoo Sports.

Agent Juan Morrow told the website that Hairston punched Northern Durham High senior forward Kentrell Barkley after Barkley punched Hairston during a pickup basketball game.

Barkley disputed that report, writing on Twitter, "I want to make this clear, I DID NOT HIT PJ OR THROW ANY PUNCHES!"

The Hornets issued a statement that read, "The organization is aware of an incident this afternoon involving P.J. Hairston. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time."

Hairston was kicked off the University of North Carolina team in December following an investigation involving impermissible benefits. He also twice was cited for traffic violations.

Hairston finished last season in the NBA Development League, where he averaged 21.8 points per game for the Texas Legends. He was drafted 26th overall by the Miami Heat, then was dealt to Charlotte for the 24th overall pick (Connecticut guard Shabazz Napier) and two second-round picks.
