ABC-7 Sports reporter Asher Wildman broke the news that NMSU football coach DeWayne Walker is leaving Las Cruces to be the defensive back's coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Las Cruces, NEW MEXICO -

Last night at New Mexico State's basketball game against Denver, ABC-7 sports reporter Asher Wildman spoke with NMSU A.D. McKinley Boston. Boston told Wildman, that he and head football coach DeWayne Walker are scheduled to meet Thursday. Last night, Boston was unaware if coach Walker was even in Las Cruces.

The meeting that is scheduled to take place Thursday is likely to end with Walker handing Boston his resignation. Asher Wildman learned through sources on Tuesday, that Walker had accepted a job to become the defensive back's coach for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.

On Wednesday sources told ABC-7 that Walker's agent was negotiating a contract with the Jaguars.

Also at last night's game, Wildman spoke briefly with NMSU Offensive Coordinator Doug Martin. Martin is believed to become the next coach if and when Walker leaves, although he told Wildman he had not heard that. Martin did, however, tell Wildman he would have interest in the job if it were to become available.
