The City of El Paso's interim director of the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department was arrested Friday, April 11, on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, according to an arrest report obtained by ABC-7.
Police state in the report that a manager called them to 650 Sunland Park Drive (Whataburger) advising them of a man asleep at the wheel in the drive thru.
The report states that officers found Ben Fyffe, 36, "asleep behind the wheel with the vehicle engine on and in gear."
One of the officers started speaking with Fyffe and determined he was intoxicated, according to the report.
Fyffe was arrested and taken to the El Paso Central Regional Command Center for processing and LIVESCAN. He was later booked in the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Fyffe has worked for MCAD since 2006 in several capacities and was named interim director of the department in Oct. 2013.
ABC-7 reached out to Fyffe for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
City of El Paso spokeswoman Juli Lozano told ABC-7, "The issue is a personnel issue and will be handled internally through the Human Resources department."
Some of MCAD's more prominent initiatives are Music Under the Stars, Alfresco! Fridays, and Chalk the Block. In addition to large events, the department oversees all public art projects, El Paso's museums and the Downtown Arts District.
