OTD February 13 - Frank Selvy

1954: Frank Selvy of Furman University becomes the only NCAA Division I basketball player ever to score 100 points in a single game when he does so against Newberry College. Selvy hits 41 of 66 field goals and 18 of 22 free throws, his last two points coming on a desperate heave near midcourt at the buzzer. The game was played well before the introduction of the three-point shot in college basketball.

Millions of Americans take part in NCAA March Madness each year, including politicians and celebrities.

President Obama releasede his 2013 bracket, which can be viewed here. Obama picked St. Louis University to beat New Mexico State University in the first round. Check out celebrity brackets here.

Some Republicans have criticized Obama for releasing his bracket but it's important to note Republicans have participated in releasing their brackets in recent years, as well.

In 2008, Arizona Republican senator and presidential nominee John McCain made his bracket picks and sponsored a contest on his website. He made his '09 bracket public, too. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney declined to fill out an NCAA bracket in 2012 because he wasn't plugged into college basketball that season, not because he didn't think it should be done at all. Obama has released his picks each year of his presidency.
