EL PASO, Texas -

An apartment fire in downtown El Paso scared residents and left one man without a home early Tuesday morning.

The fire happened at around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Kansas and Third. Residents tell our Round the Clock crew they were awakened by loud noises in the first floor, when someone went up and down the narrow hallways warning them to get out quickly. Nobody was hurt, however residents did complain of the smoke.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames pouring out of the doors and windows of a 1st floor apartment unit. About 40 people waited outside the complex for firefighters to put out the blaze. They were allowed to return about an hour after fire crews arrived, except for the man who owned the burning apartment unit.

Fire officials say they will find a place for that man to stay for the night. They also tell us the man has been evaluated and remains part of their investigation.
