Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening in central El Paso.

According to police officials, officers responded to a shooting on the 1200 block of Raynolds around 9:30 p.m.

Officials said a 57-year-old man shot his girlfriend, a 52-year-old woman, in the arm.

The man had minor injuries.

After speaking with the couple, officials said they learned an argument between the two lead to a physical altercation.

The woman bit the man's hand, and punched him, according to police.

Then, the male locked himself in a bedroom. Officials learned the woman allegedly threatened to kill the man, and took several knives from the kitchen.

Police said the man found a gun in his room and when the woman broke through the locked door, he shot her.

He told officials she charged at him with two knives, according to a police release.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center for her non-life threatening injury.

Charges are pending against the female, according to police.
