EL PASO, Texas -

A 55-year-old man was hit by a vehicle Monday night in West El Paso, suffering serious injuries to his head and leg.

El Paso Police officials said the preliminary investigation revealed Armando Aguilar was running across the 5500 block of Doniphan at the same time 45-year-old Maria Gonzalez was driving a white Toyota Camry south on Doniphan. Police said Aguilar was not crossing at a cross walk and failed to yield the right of way to the southbound vehicle.

Aguilar as transported to University Medical Center. Gonzalez, the driver of the Toyota, a female front seat passenger, and a 16-year-old female back seat passenger were not injured and were wearing seatbelts.

Police said alcohol is suspected on the part of the pedestrian.
