El Paso native, Dan Martinez, joins ABC 7 as your StormTracker for Good Morning El Paso Weekend.
He is finishing up his last semester at New Mexico State University, and will complete his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications and a minor in government this spring.
During his time at NMSU, Dan had the chance to be a part of the award-winning News 22 program (KRWG-TV). He served as an on-air forecaster and news anchor for the student run program.
In the summer of 2013, he earned the opportunity that is few and far between for aspiring journalists. Dan was selected to intern at the world headquarters for CNN in Atlanta.
While at CNN, Dan worked with a team of producers that put together a nightly two-hour show on CNN’s sister network, HLN. Even though the experiences he gained there were priceless and incomparable, it made him treasure the greatness El Paso has to offer.
Dan also worked with The Weather Channel in 2008 when he was selected as an Eco-Ambassador for their Forecast Earth platform. In Washington D.C., he met with other students from around the nation to discuss how the climate change has affected our weather.
His fascination with the weather and forecasts ignited as an eighth grader at Desert View Middle, when his last-minute science project on weather forecast accuracy led him all the way to the Exxon-Mobil State Science Fair.
He joined the “Knight Vision News” program at J.M. Hanks High School as a sophomore (GO KNIGHTS!). There, he learned many roles of television production and on-air talent presentation—dubbed “Dan The Weatherman” by his peers. In the summers of 2008 and 2009, Dan interned at the KFOX weather department.
Following his accomplishments at Hanks, Dan began his college career at El Paso Community College. There he was able to confirm that broadcasting was truly something that captivated him.
In his spare time, you can catch Dan volunteering with the Hanks Interact club, spending time with his family, watching Modern Family, or taking a trip to Disneyland.
