Five - Two - One - Zero, are you up for the challenge? On today's Estela's Escuelas, Las Cruces mayor Ken Miyagishima challenged third graders at MacArthur Elementary, to eat more healthfully. The challenge is to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, spend no more than two hours per day watching tv, have one hour per day of physical activity, and drink zero sodas. It's all a part of a program the mayor came up with six years ago and it's been nationally recognized.Mayor Miyagishima got the idea after seeing what his brother went through having diabetes. In the 6 years of the program he has spoken to more than 12,000 third graders at Las Cruces public schools. Students who complete the challenge will get a certificate and a gold coin.
